This 350 (which I’m currently tearing down) was manufactured on 11 July, 1974 at the Tonawanda engine plant. Rated for 145HP with its 2bbl carb, it was sent to the Baltimore assembly plant, where it was mated with a TH350 and installed into a Chevrolet A-body (based on the year/plant this is would be a 74 or 75 Chevelle or Monte Carlo).

I bet there's an internet forum somewhere that you could put that number into and get the exact vehicle it was installed in along with every option on that vehicle.

It’s only a partial VIN for chevy, 1974, baltimore assembly, serial 624103 - that plant made chevelles (and I think montes) and the CMR engine code agrees with being for an A-body. Unless you found the trim tag from the car it would have been in (and thus the car it came in) , hard to know much more; especially for a ‘74.

I ran the VIN on the SBC in my Camaro a while back  and it came back as a ‘77 truck engine. Not very sexy, but not unexpected since those engines were everywhere back in the day. Somebody put a mild performance cam in it at some point but it still has those terrible heads.

If it’s a 3/4ton or 1ton it’s probably got 4-bolt main bearing caps, which is a good thing for longevity and ability to handle power. In any case, a set of heads would really wake it up over the stock ‘77 smog crap!

It does have 4-bolt mains, I confirmed that when I replaced the oil pan. I just haven’t gotten to the engine yet as it runs well and the rest of the car needs the attention.

Ah, ford used to have the full bore of data available to the public via their ETIS, build date, color, interior fabric/color combo, engine/gearbox code, and for most cars after 94 or so, the full build-spec-list. Since a while back they decided to close it down so all you see now is what model the car is what model, engine name and maybe the exterior color name too...

I have the full datasheet from that saved for my 2002 crown vic, it’s pretty neat. Not sure why they closed it (unless it’s a paid service now?). No such thing exists for GM that I know of, and it wouldn’t go back to t he 70s anyways.

Ford is the only manufacturer i could find that have it public outside of maybe the VW option stickers in the car from 94-ish and up (if it’s not rotted away or torn out of your car). I think it wasn’t ever meant to be fully public in the first place honestly... Or they just decided to simplify and lock behind the dealer-gateway stuff in a boneheaded move...
